May 23 Meeting of Spruce Pine Kiwanis
Last week Stephanie Gaspard gave an enthusiastic talk about her role at JobLink with the Workforce Investment Act, a program sponsored by Mayland Community College and several governmental agencies to help people in job searches and employment counseling. With so many plant closings in the area there has been an 'overload' of workers needing retraining to take on a
new job.
The 50th Anniversary Celebration was well attended by 28 members and 35 spouses or invited guests. David Blevins and Claude Greene, both charter members, were presented with pins and certificates for their Kiwanis time and service. I think it is safe to say that no one left the party hungry!
