May 29 Meeting of Spruce Pine Kiwanis

Last week Coach Acuff pinch hit Doug Sigler for Gaylord Perry. Doug resides on Snow Creek Road and has been associated with the Penland School for many years, where he is now a part-time wood working instructor and custom builder of spec houses. He told some interesting tales about his Penland experiences
and noted that attendance at craft school classes has gone from being managers of 100+ employee operations to individuals or managers of five or less employees.

Workers and Players are needed for 3rd Annual Kiwanis Golf Tournament, Sat, Jun 9th at Grassy Creek Golf Club. Workers are needed beginning at 10 am to help with getting things set up for the tournament. Also, items for Goodie Bags and Door Prizes are still needed and are appreciated by the participants.

Claude was, as usual, our star by selling 110 tickets for the Fish Fry, but another star is rising; Lane sold 50 tickets. As soon as the last few stragglers turn in
their money, we will give a final report on the April 20 Fish Fry.

Congratulations to the following recipients of $1,000 Kiwanis scholarships at MHS Awards Night (college and field of study shown following name) : Summer Fleenor, MCC-paralegal; Jessica Howell, NCSU-veterinary studies; Alexandra Stevenson, ASU-elementary arts teacher; and Lauren Wilson, UNC-global health.
